What is Pure?

What does Pure do in Assetto Corsa?

Pure is a free ppFilter weather and lighting mod for Assetto Corsa created by developer Michael Hornbeck. It works with Custom Shader Patch's Weather FX extension to replace the default in-game sky and lighting system with a photorealistic, filmic look — accurate sky simulation, improved ambient occlusion, richer colour grading and consistent lighting across all times of day. Pure is the most widely used ppFilter in the community for singleplayer driving, screenshots and video capture.

Pure does not change car physics, audio or any gameplay element. It is a visual-only mod that runs entirely on the client. It is compatible with all Assetto Corsa cars and tracks and can be used on any online server regardless of the server's configuration.

Installation

How to install Pure in Assetto Corsa

  1. 1
Install Custom Shader Patch through Content Manager

Pure requires Custom Shader Patch version 0.1.78 or newer. In Content Manager, go to Settings → Custom Shader Patch and install the latest recommended version. CSP is free. If CSP is already installed, check the version number shown in that panel — update to the latest stable release if it is older than 0.1.78.

  2. 2
    Download Pure from overtake.gg

Go to overtake.gg and search for "Pure" — the full name on the site is "Pure — ppFilter". Download the latest release archive. Pure is free. The download page is the primary source; avoid mirrors. The archive contains a folder of ppFilter configuration files.

  3. 3
    Install Pure via Content Manager

Drag the downloaded Pure archive directly onto the Content Manager window. Content Manager identifies it as a ppFilter and places the files in the correct Assetto Corsa folder automatically. If drag-and-drop does not work, extract the archive manually and place the "pure" folder into assettocorsa\system\cfg\ppfilters.

  4. 4
Enable Weather FX in CSP settings

Go to Content Manager Settings → Custom Shader Patch → Weather FX and ensure the feature is enabled. Weather FX is the CSP module that activates ppFilters such as Pure and Sol. Without it enabled, the game uses its default lighting regardless of which ppFilter is selected.

  5. 5
Select Pure as the active ppFilter

When setting up a Quick Drive session in Content Manager, look for the ppFilter or Weather dropdown in the session settings and select "pure" from the list. Alternatively, set it as the global default in Content Manager Settings → Custom Shader Patch → General → ppFilter. Pure only renders when CSP's Weather FX is active.

  6. 6
Test in a Quick Drive session

Start a Quick Drive session with a clear or partly cloudy time of day. Pure applies immediately — you should see the characteristic filmic colour grading, improved sky and richer ambient lighting. If the sky looks flat or default, confirm Weather FX is enabled in CSP settings and that "pure" is the selected ppFilter for the session.

FAQ

Pure weather mod — common questions

What is Pure for Assetto Corsa?

Pure is a free ppFilter and weather lighting mod for Assetto Corsa created by developer Michael Hornbeck. It works with Custom Shader Patch's Weather FX system to replace the default in-game lighting with a photorealistic, filmic look — featuring accurate sky rendering, improved ambient lighting and a distinctive colour grading style. Pure requires CSP version 0.1.78 or newer and is installed through Content Manager alongside CSP. It is widely used for screenshots and video capture because of its visual character.

What is the difference between Pure and Sol?

Pure and Sol are both free ppFilter weather mods for Assetto Corsa that require Custom Shader Patch, but they suit different purposes. Pure is known for its photorealistic filmic colour grading — the preferred choice for singleplayer driving, screenshots and video. Sol, created by Peter Boese, features a more complete dynamic weather system including rain and puddles, and is more common on online servers because of its longer track record with server operators. Both are free, available on overtake.gg, and compatible with Content Manager.

How do I install Pure in Assetto Corsa?

To install Pure in Assetto Corsa: first install Custom Shader Patch version 0.1.78 or newer through Content Manager Settings → Custom Shader Patch. Then download Pure from overtake.gg (search "Pure ppFilter") and drag the archive onto Content Manager to install it automatically. Enable Weather FX in Content Manager Settings → CSP → Weather FX. Finally, select "pure" as the active ppFilter in the Quick Drive session setup or in CSP General settings.

Does Pure require Custom Shader Patch?

Yes. Pure requires Custom Shader Patch version 0.1.78 or newer — it is built on CSP's Weather FX extension and will not function without it. CSP is free and installed through Content Manager Settings → Custom Shader Patch. If CSP is already installed but older than 0.1.78, update it from the same panel. Pure itself adds the ppFilter configuration files that CSP's Weather FX uses to render the sky and lighting correctly.

Why is Pure not working after installing it?

Pure not showing after installation is almost always one of three causes: Weather FX is not enabled in CSP settings (go to Content Manager → Settings → Custom Shader Patch → Weather FX and enable it); "pure" is not selected as the active ppFilter for the session (check the ppFilter dropdown in Quick Drive setup); or CSP is below version 0.1.78 (check and update in Content Manager → Settings → Custom Shader Patch). If all three are correct and Pure still does not appear, drag the archive onto Content Manager again to reinstall.

Can I use Pure on online servers?

Yes. Pure is a client-side visual mod and does not affect physics, game data or server compatibility. You can use Pure on any Assetto Corsa server regardless of what weather mod the server operator has configured. Some servers set specific weather conditions that influence what Pure renders, but the ppFilter runs entirely on your PC and no other player or server can detect which filter you are using.

Need Custom Shader Patch first?

Pure requires CSP. Our guide covers installing Custom Shader Patch through Content Manager — free, takes about five minutes.
