Assetto Corsa controller settings
Assetto Corsa at default settings is genuinely difficult to drive on a gamepad. Three settings in Content Manager — Steering Speed, Gamma and Filter — fix almost all of it. This guide covers those settings and the recommended values for Xbox, PlayStation and generic controllers.

How to set up a controller in Content Manager
- 1 Open Content Manager Controls settings
Launch Content Manager and go to Settings → Assetto Corsa → Controls. Plug in your controller before opening this page. Content Manager detects the connected device and shows it in the Controller dropdown. Select it if not already active.
- 2 Set steering axes
Under the Steering section, click the Steer Left/Right axis field and move the left stick left or right. Content Manager maps the axis automatically. Confirm the preview bar moves correctly. If the axis is inverted, tick the Invert checkbox next to the axis field.
- 3 Assign throttle and brake
Click the Gas axis field and press the right trigger fully. Click the Brake axis field and press the left trigger fully. Content Manager maps each trigger separately. On controllers where triggers share an axis (some generic pads), tick "Combined axis" and use the right trigger for throttle and left for brake.
- 4 Set steering speed to 25% and gamma to 2.5
In the Force Feedback / steering options section, set Steering Speed to 25% and Steering Gamma to 2.5. These two settings do more than anything else to make controller driving manageable. Default values in AC treat the gamepad like a direct steering device, which causes the violent snap behaviour most new players experience.
- 5 Set deadzone and filter
Set Steering Deadzone to 5% to filter out stick drift. Set Filter to 0.90 — this smooths rapid stick corrections without adding meaningful lag. Leave Throttle Gamma at 1.7 and Brake Gamma at 1.2 as starting values; these can be tuned after you have driven a few laps.
- 6 Test in Quick Drive and iterate
Start a Quick Drive session with a road car such as the BMW M3 E30 or Alfa Romeo Giulia. Drive several laps and note whether the car feels twitchy (lower steering speed), slow to turn in (raise steering speed or lower gamma), or hard to catch slides (lower filter). Adjust in 5% increments and retest.
